Maru & Moro 1/8 PVC

Maru & Moro, or Maru-dashi and Moro-dashi, who’s names both literally mean “exposing oneself in public”, the two servants to Yuuko in the manga/anime xxxHolic arrived here in PVC form yesterday. Don’t get the wrong idea though, they are far from exhibitionists. I ordered them from Hobby Search, for 6,153 Yen. They come together of course, and they are still available at the time of writing this post. This makes my second figure from Art Storm/Lilics. If you are interested you can order them here. Read on for the full review and a plethora of pictures.

As I’ve come to expect from Lilics, the quality of their figures looks great until you take a closer look. Maru & Moro’s kimonos are very detailed and so are the rest of them honestly. I must say I was impressed that even their fingernails are painted, the facial expressions are dead on with the anime, and overall they’re accurate. The only real flaws are the paint job in some areas, such as the laces and inner sleeves, where the paint bleeds off them in parts. That and Maru’s twin tails have noticeable lines where the parts were fit together. Both figures can be separated from eachother, they are individual figures, and the base they are on has no pegs or anything to attach them onto it. The base is actually pretty nice, a sleek black base with a little gold trim on it, and not too big, but large enough to give them some space. Of course it makes moving them from place to place more difficult since they don’t attach, but it also means they have an underside and though it’s not highly detailed Lilics didn’t completely forget to detail the underside, as you’ll see in my example pictures. Though quality-wise they don’t stand up to the best of the best, but they’re very nicely done and capture them perfectly. I would have loved it if they made a Yuuko Ichihara figure, but as far as I’ve read through xxxHolic and watched of the anime, I’ve taken quite the liking to Maru & Moro, as even being minor characters they play an important role. This is the first 1/8 scale figure made from xxxHolic, so I have high hopes that it won’t be the last either. The manga and the anime is one of my favorites, and I’ll most definitely have to blog about them in the future some day. I was bored the other day and decided to make Maru & Moro a little fan club on MyAnimeList, since I’ve not only become attached to the story but I really like this figure.

The first picture and the following pictures were an experiment in the dark, and actually the first pictures I took of them. I normally don’t do special pictures in my reviews but I didn’t think they needed a separate post just for them, so here’s some more of my “dark secret” batch. I would have loved to do an entire post with just these kind of pictures, but I want you to see what they look like in light too.

To properly end this post I’d like to present to you the second ending song from the first season of the anime xxxHolic. It features Maru & Moro playing air guitar and Mokona dancing. I thought it appropriate to add in.
