Juvisy – Busou Shinki

Juvisy was another AmiAmi Busou Shinki buy. I got her for a decent price and with half-off shipping. Unfortunately AmiAmi doesn’t carry her in stock anymore and there’s not a listing I can link you to there either. Juvisy is a Full Set MMS Type Seed, with character design by okama, and she was released back in February of 2007 as part of the 4th Wave of Busou Shinkis. In the Battle Rondo game, she’s voiced by Kaori Nazuka, whom you might recognize as Nunnally Lamperouge in Code Geass, Lynette Bishop from Strike Witches, or more recently Shikuzu Sangou from Kämpfer among other roles. Juvisy comes with no extra heads or faces, but she has plenty of little bits and pieces. She has three weapons, a bunch of shell or plant-like armor parts, and extra leg gear. Her red hair pieces aren’t intended for removal, but in the game itself they can be taken off. Juvisy is another Full Set, so she’s got a big box like Tigris with the window and all. Juvisy of course also comes with a code for the Busou Shinki Battle Rondo game, and she’s available for playing with in Diorama Studio as well. Being a Seed Type, she’s quite skilled in defense, and her tension attack is quite powerful. As for her figure, aside from the lack of extra faces and such, she’s quite well done aside from some minor flaws. Her pieces stay on pretty well except when you have all her gear on it’s not too hard to knock a piece off when moving her about. Of course there are the usual rings on the arms and wrists which you need to take special care not to lose when removing her arms to put on her gear. The instructions are helpful enough but are entirely in Japanese as always. On her box you can get other ideas of what to do with her gear, but with Busou Shinkis it’s most fun when you let your imagination flow and just try to come up with things yourself. Juvisy isn’t too hard to deal with in-game but she can be difficult for a beginner to use. Not suggested for a first time character of course. She only has one special attack and that can make things difficult, but it is a great one and one of the better ones in the game. Not much else to say about the figure that the pictures can’t tell.
Juvisy is a fun figure for me, and her unique armor with the big claw-like hands resembling a harvester are what convinced me to buy her. Who doesn’t want to see how a seed fights? Perhaps okama’s art style is also to blame. One last warning, if you pick up Juvisy to remember she’s like all other shinkis with the washers in the arms, wrists and legs which are easy to lose when taking apart, so take extra special care when messing with her pieces. Also her armored feet aren’t easy to stand up on, they’re a bit wobbly. I actually really love them even so, and find it fun trying to pose her without her stand. Speaking of stands, her stand requires a bit of assembly, but part of the enjoyment of shinkis is assembly. I’ll now finish up this review with some screenshots of my Juvisy in Battle Rondo. Hmm,not a favorite, I thought the armor and wep(which looks…er ecchi-ish) was pretty weird. She does have an awesome face, which really reminds me of Eureka seven.
Nopy – Yeah I think it’s got more playability than your average Figma, could be why I love the Shinki line so much :3
GREW – currently own um… 9 I guess. 8 1/2 cuz one’s just a head and gear. Yes I’ve gone crazy. I got one pre-ordered for this Summer and I think one on the way. I got Juvisy before the Nikon actually, I’m just getting behind on reviews.
Gunstray – I don’t use her normal weapons in game at all, she’s using Howling’s beatsticks to get her tension up fast. Considering her character designer does h-manga, it’s no surprise that her weapon is ecchi-ish. Believe me the first time I saw that weapon I thought the same thing.

I haven’t bought anything from the Konami line but they sure look interesting. How do you you compare her points of articulation to a figma?

Xine – Well, the points of articulation are basically in most of the same areas, but Shinkis can really bend into gymnastics poses a lot more freely. Thinking about that question perhaps I should do a video review one of these days comparing them, hmm.
lylibellule – I’ve grown to love them despite the outstanding joints, they’re more versatile than most action figures.
What a load of accessories to use. You have done a good job showcasing everything she has to offer. Love the last pose – relaxing after a hard day of shooting.

Benio – It is quite a pleasant surprise, I really didn’t expect them to come back, especially that many of them. I do believe they tried to find someone with them because they likely exceed sale expectations. The price is definitely right.
