Fate Testarossa Figma

Fate Testarossa

It’s been a while since I did a Figma review. In fact, this particular Figma I’ve had for some time now. This time I’m reviewing the young Fate Testarossa from Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha The Movie 1st. I bought her from AmiAmi a few months ago, for 2,150 Yen. She’s still available there if you’re interested in picking one up for yourself. Nearly two years ago I bought the first Fate Figma released, and did a really bad (in comparison to now) review of her, you can still see here. Well, on to the review!

I already have her box in storage, so I apologize, no box shots here. I did get a shot of the backdrop which includes a punch-out cover for a Di:Stage. Again, I don’t own a Di:Stage so I can’t show you what it looks like on one. She comes with 8 extra hands on a rack (making 10 total), her cloak, Figma stand, Bardiche and it’s extra parts for different modes, and her extra face and hairpiece.

This time around Fate is scaled to be younger because The Movie 1st is a retelling of the first season of Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha. I think it worked fine, though her arms feel a bit longer than needed to me. Bardiche is noticeably more detailed this time around, and it comes with 3 different attachments that can be removed on the top of Bardiche’s staff. Scythe form is my favorite of course, and it’s one of the main reasons I got into Fate and Nanoha in the first place. The other mode (I’m not sure it’s name) is meant for shooting, and then you have plain old Bardiche. They are all wonderfully detailed. The Scythe form and regular form are larger this time. The cloak is interesting, as it has soft parts around the neck area and the rest is made of hard plastic. There are two Figma joints to allow it to be moved about for posing, and though they do give more versatility they really aren’t all that mobile. The two hair pieces have very little difference, one has a bit longer hair and is better suited for action poses. The extra face included is supposed to portray her struggling in action I suppose, and though it does the job good enough I can’t help but think a third face should have been included. Also, her skirt piece is removable but I didn’t feel like tearing her body apart to illustrate that for this review. Even though Figmas are action figures they have a tendency to be more fragile than most action figures on the market, making up for it with their superior sculpting. The cloak also can be attached through a hole that connects the stand into her back, or it can also be worn without the stand altogether. A clear peg comes with her for that specific purpose. The clear peg can be inserted in the hole of the cloak and then into her back. Her twin tails are also more secure than the old Fate’s. I’m pretty sure that covers everything there is to say about her then.

Here’s a few bonus shots from when I first got her. It was Spring and I took her (and several other figures) out around town for some pictures. I figured I might as well throw them in here.

Fate isn’t the best Figma I’ve ever bought or owned, but I think Max Factory did a better job on many parts compared to the Fate T. Harlaown version they did a couple years back. With that in mind I can recommend her, she’s really good for being a smaller Figma than usual. Definitely a must-get for Fate fans, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha fans, and well, anyone who likes blond girls with twin tails equipped with mechanical weapons that transform into scythes? As a little bonus I’ll finish this review up with some Fate Testarossa with Fate T. Harlaown pictures. I couldn’t resist taking them.

Certainly not my best review ever, but I think it tops the old Fate T. Harlaown one at least. Hope you enjoyed the pictures, see you in the next review!

  1. I agree that she isn’t the best figma ever but she still a pretty solid one!!!
    Nice photos!!!
All that’s left for me to get is the school version of Fate as I currently have all the Fate figmas but that one…
I still have to say, I liked the Fate T Harlaown figma but when time past, figures get better and sooner or later will be better than the old ones…

Rin – Thank you. I thought about getting that version, mostly for Arf, but I passed for now. I also liked the Harlaown Figma for quite some time but as Figma progressed she got left in their dust. I really do like the improvements that this new one has over her.

  3. Yeah, they want to get the most money of the frenchise XD

At least she looks good ^^

Want into loli Fate-to, but cute fig, and her version of bardiche is more sharper than adult Fate

GREW – Yeah they make it pretty obvious XD I got tempted into this Figma when a friend purchased her.

Gunstray – Bardiche is definitely more sharp in this than the adult version. Fate, Vita and Signum were my favorite characters throughout the series, so I like the loli version and the adult version pretty equally for her.

  6. Having joints in capes can sound odd but it sure adds some flexibility in posing, so it’s a good thing afterall I think, but I have seen people breaking that joint before.

What kinda feels odd about this figma is the face – a smiling Fate in 1st season / movie 1st seems … Odd. She normally has a very stoic look, and surprisingly that wasn’t included (thinking about it both versions of younger Fate figmas have a smiling face). I have seen somebody who did some modding and made a face for that, and it fits her character much better. You can have a look here:

On the other hand, this guy also carved off bits of front part of the hair so Fate’s eyebrows appear more clearly. Doesn’t sound easy, but such small touches do add up very well IMHO.

I have been wondering about whether younger Fate’s face is compatible with the adult’s head and vice versa, but seeing that younger one has a rounder face while adult one has a longer face I guess they are not. I hope you can answer my enquiry there for me!

Q – That is pretty interesting, and yes I do think a non-smiling face should have been the standard but I’m fine with the way it turned out. A third face would have been great and I think all Figmas should have that many. To answer your question, no they can’t be swappable, though Testarossa’s face almost fit on Harlaown’s, and the hair doesn’t work because of the wide face. I took a picture to show the back of the faces so you can see the difference in the two where it matters:

  8. @ Persocom:
Thanks for the info; that helps a lot! I was thinking if I buy the Fate school uniform version I would like to put her closed eyes face on the adult one. I suspected it to be incompatible, but that now confirms it.
