Chi In Party Dress (Convention Exclusive)

Not long ago I finally took the risk and bought a figure from a random sale at MyFigureCollection. I’m usually not one to buy things from someone I don’t know, as I really don’t like using Ebay often, or doing business with anyone I don’t personally know, but sometimes you just have to take your chances. Luckily I wasn’t ripped off, the figure arrived in good condition, unopened. This version of Chi, (which actually looks more like Freya) is a San Diego Comic Con exclusive released back in 2005. There were only 1,000 of them made. I’ve been hoping to get my hands on this one for quite a long time but never expected to actually get her. This one is number 650. Now, as a figure collector you might want to keep such a thing in it’s box, but I personally can’t stand doing that. So today I present you with another figure review.

First of all I wanted to show the box since I didn’t include it in a loot post and don’t intend on doing so. Nothing special but the box proves that it’s number 650 of 1,000.

Chi sits on her stool without any attachments, but her dress flows over it to help keep her in place. Her quality really isn’t that high, the plastic is a bit flimsy, but this is only an alternate color version of the original pink dress one. Though her quality isn’t what you’d expect nowadays, you could say for her original price and for the fact that she’s a Chobits figure, she’s not all that bad. the lower half of her dress is actually removable, and she sports black pantsu underneath. The stool itself is a nice thing to have because it’s perfect for using other figures on as well. Her hair is flexible, in fact the entire figure is made of a sort of low quality plastic that is quite flexible and feels like it would easily melt in the sun, quite similar to a gashapon. Despite the negative things about the figure, I really like it as a Chobits fan and I will probably buy the original pink version some day as well. Her arms are hinge-jointed at the elbow and the hands are as well, much like a Figma and her arm is also movable up and down at the shoulder, but not outward. Also Chi’s head is rotatable, so you can qualify her as an action figure even though she doesn’t have many points of articulation. Only a Chobits fan would want to pick up this figure of course, and finding it would likely be a difficult thing to do, especially mint and sealed in the box. Overall, I’m happy with my purchase even if she’s nowhere near the quality of most of my collection.

We all have a certain special series or character that regardless of how our tastes change we remember and still treasure, and Chobits is that for me. I for one, would love to see a high quality Chi figure made by a big name company like Alter, but until that happens I’ll settle with collecting old figures like this. When I named myself Persocom it was more of an ode to the show that turned me into an anime fanatic than anything to do with the personal computer or パソコン (pasokon). Well, hope you enjoyed the review. It’s more of an excuse to take pictures than a review for people interested in buying though I guess.

Hmm, didn’t know the US had limited figure releases. It’s nice that her arms and wrist are poseable. But if her legs were poseable as well I think it would have been better. The dress is nice though the material makes it look like a latex dress lol.

AS – yeah it’s odd that such a thing exists. I don’t really know all that much about it because back when it was released I hadn’t started collecting figures. Poseable legs would be great, hopefully some day someone will make a fully poseable version of her. I do agree the dress looks a bit like latex and well, it’s all pretty soft too.
Chii !
like AS said, i had no idea US made figures… <.<
but i guess they wont for sure meet the expectations like the japanese one.
She looks good nevertheless

I think this is the first figure I have seen where the top of her body posed only. I kind of like that concept for reason.
Pantsu shot !!!!

Fabrice – yeah it’s strange, but it’s a good figure for the price it was originally sold for. Sure I paid a bit more because it’s a hard to get item now but it was worth it as an old Chobits fan.
bluedrakon – Pantsu indeed XD It is an interesting concept, actually there’s a newer figure that’s only poseable from the waist up that I’ll be reviewing soon, from Queen’s Blade.
I did hear that there are figures and toys of Japanese anime released only for US and are fairly rare, and this is one of them (a convention exclusive too, which is even less unexpected!). It’s also my first time seeing only the top half of the body is articulated, so it’s a mixture between a static and a poseable figure. Interesting…

Q – I guess Chobits was one of those shows that was widely accepted by the US audience. MegaHouse has recently jumped on that with Ymir, though she’s standing rather than sitting. Guess I need to hurry up her review.
The world needs more Chi figures! I’m glad you were able to get one, I have a nice one by Art Storm but my heart aches over how awesome a figure of Chi made with today’s figure technology would be.

lovelyduckie – Oh mine does too, I hope that some day we’ll see one release. I know I’d be all over it.
Oh its quite interesting that shes a mix between action figure and static PVC figure.
Atleast you can do some doggy style poses with her XD

Blowfish – ahaha yes it certainly opens her up for interesting poses XD
